A Decade of Empowerment: The Indy Black Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 10 Years of Impact
This August, the Indy Black Chamber of Commerce (IBCC) marked a powerful milestone—its 10th Anniversary—during the 8th Annual Awards Banquet, a night dedicated to celebrating Black excellence, entrepreneurial spirit, and a decade of unwavering service to the community.
In ten years, the Chamber has grown from a bold idea into a cornerstone for small business success, advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion while ensuring that economic power continues to circulate within the community it serves.
A Vision Rooted in Community
The evening’s speakers reflected on IBCC’s core mission: to strengthen and elevate minority-owned businesses by promoting collaboration and sustainable growth.
One speaker reminded attendees of an essential truth — “Our money only circulates in our community for six hours. We have to do better in order to do better.”
This call to action captured the night’s energy: that progress comes not just through celebration, but through consistent investment—of time, talent, and resources—back into the community.
Faith, Legacy, and Perseverance
Faith was a guiding theme throughout the event. The phrase “God does big things with small things” echoed across the room, followed by the reminder from scripture: “Despise not the day of small beginnings.”
These words resonated deeply with the Chamber’s journey—from humble beginnings to a 10-year legacy of impact. Attendees also honored the legacy of Hart, whose mission was to ensure Black youth and minority entrepreneurs could rise to “higher ground” through education and opportunity.
Special recognition was given to Mr. Ron Buzzy, who traveled from Washington, D.C., to celebrate the occasion—signaling the Chamber’s growing influence beyond Indianapolis.
Building Bridges and Bigger Futures
The IBCC remains committed to closing the gap of disparity that still exists in access and opportunity. The Chamber encourages members to think boldly—pursuing mergers, consortiums, and acquisitions—to reach the scale necessary to compete for larger contracts and new markets.
This strategy aligns with the organization’s belief that collaboration is key to transformation.
The GROWTH Program: Equipping Entrepreneurs for Success
Central to IBCC’s future is its GROWTH Program, an initiative that provides
Guidance, Resources, Opportunities, Wealth training, and Help—empowering small business owners with the tools, mentorship, and access they need to thrive.
Through this and other initiatives, the Chamber continues to build pathways for generational wealth and sustainable business development across Indiana.
We are only as strong as our supporters!
