Job Summary:

The Indy Black Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Business Navigator to play a pivotal role in empowering microenterprises and small businesses within the Greater Indianapolis, Indiana area. This position involves a multifaceted approach, including client engagement, entrepreneurship support, data tracking, and fostering community connections.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Engagement with Microenterprises and Small Businesses:

   – Assist with business recruitment through targeted marketing and community outreach efforts.

   – Conduct microenterprise intake assessments and follow-ups to determine eligibility for technical assistance services.

   – Utilize tools like Growth Wheel to assess businesses and develop tailored business growth plans.

   – Select and subcontract third-party technical assistance consultants for marketing, accounting, bookkeeping, and legal support.

   – Coordinate initial meetings and ongoing communication between businesses and subcontractors.

   – Schedule and manage one-on-one sessions between businesses and subcontractors.

   – Follow up with both businesses and subcontractors to ensure services are delivered effectively.

   – Provide resource navigation services for businesses not eligible for the microenterprise cohort program.

   – Offer one-on-one business coaching, including assistance with business registration and planning.

2. Engagement with Entrepreneurship Support Organizations:

   – Establish and maintain regular connections with neighborhood-based organizations and business support entities for referrals and resource sharing.

   – Stay informed about the small business landscape in Indianapolis, including emerging businesses, challenges, and support needs.

   – Actively participate in LISC-supported convenings, trainings, and related events related to microenterprise programs.

   – Provide one-on-one coaching for eligible businesses.

3. Data Tracking, Digital Platform Management, and Learning:

   – Conduct mandatory microenterprise intake assessments and follow-ups, including income verification.

   – Ensure microenterprise owners meet the required Low to Moderate Income (LMI) threshold.

   – Maintain accurate client meeting records, complete reporting requirements, and submit quarterly reports to LISC for review.

   – Identify and manage relationships with technical assistance subcontractors to ensure the delivery of high-quality assistance.

   – Facilitate client evaluations and surveys to gather feedback on their experiences.

Qualifications and Requirements:

– Must be hired as a full-time employee and receive payment via W-2 by the Indy Black Chamber of Commerce.

– Minimum of five years of experience in business development, entrepreneurship, coaching, or a related field.

– Excellent public speaking, written, and oral communication skills, with a knack for building positive interpersonal relationships.

– Strong commitment to delivering high-quality program services.

– Familiarity with community resources, volunteer networks, funding sources, and small business support services.

– Strategic thinking, resourcefulness, and effective problem-solving abilities.

– Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

– Self-directed yet excels in a team environment, with the capacity to establish and maintain positive internal and external relationships.

– Proficiency in database management and basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
